A-Ma Cultural Village

A-Ma Cultural Village

A-Ma Cultural Village lies on a 170-meter high peak of a mountaintop on Macau’s Coloane Island. The development of the A-Ma Cultural Village began in 2001 during the Chung Yeung Festival, just after the A-Ma Cultural and Tourism Festival of Macau. The A-Ma Cultural Village comprises a bell tower, drum tower, a carved marble altar in the A-Ma Palace, a museum, a dressing hall and shops.

Tourists find their trip to the A-Ma Cultural Village both pleasant and culturally rewarding. Entery to the A-Ma Cultural Village is through the six rows of stairs carved with auspicious Chinese patterns such as the double lion, the roaring tiger, the five cranes and double phoenix leading to the Tian Hou Palace. Several Macanese and Taiwanese snack stalls, souvenir shops, folk handicrafts and other tourist facilities are available at the village. The village is encompassed with a park and can be reached by the Estrada do Alto de Coloane. The road leads to the parking area towards the newly-developed Recreational Fishing Zone, the Arboretum – which features more than 100 species of local and exotic trees, and provides access to the Coloane Hiking Trail. The road continues towards the top of the peak where visitors find another car park, the new Alto de Coloane picnic area, as well as the statue of the Goddess A-Ma.The spacious hilltop base of A-Ma statue provides a 360 view of Coloane, Hacsa Beach and Cotai. Macau peninsula can also be seen on a clear day.

A series of extravagant celebrations take place at the A-Ma Cultural Village with colorful and religious rituals and cultural performance by dancing troupes from Fujian. The parade of the Golden Statue of A-Ma also takes place with folkdance teams along the streets of Macau from Iao Hon Park to A-Ma Square. Joint tourism fun-fair, a Fujian food festival, and special fireworks are displayed during the festivals.
