Lover’s Road

Located in the eastern coast of Zhuhai, Lovers’ Road was built in the early 1990s. It is in the north of the Harbor Road junction, south of the Gongbei Barrier Gate junction, and closely associated with Macao.Zhuhai Lovers’ Road is a coastal road with a total length of 17 kilometers. With two parts including South Lover’s Road and North Lover’s Road, Lover’ s Road starts from Gongbei Yuehua Garden, via Jiuzhou Port, Zhuhai Fisher Girl Statue and other famous scenic tourist spots. Lovers’ Road  fully reflects a blend of natural and cultural interaction. Walking along with the blue sky ,white clouds, panoramic view of the sea and gentle breeze, tourists will really enjoy their leisure time. It has become one of the top attractions for those who visit Zhuhai for the first time and like to promenade along the seaside.

Though it may seems like this walk along the sea, maybe like another road that you have ventured in any other countries. However there’s a backstory behind the name “Lovers’ Road”. Long ago, mermaids are living in the Dragon Palace were seen in this place. One of the girl fell in love with the fisherman Haipeng. But the mermaids were in disguised as a fisherman to not be discovered by the humans. The fisherman insisted in removing the bracelets, she took off the bracelets and she instantly fainted. The Elders told him to find the “Rejuvenation Grass”, and needed it’s own blood to raise it. Eventually Haipeng used his blood to raise it and dedicated his life to revive her. After that she became a fisherman living in the mortal world collecting shells and pearls. She discovered the pearl and offered to the Elders, promising that it will overcome typhoons and strong weathers.

So you might have think what’s the romance behind it. The Zhuhai Lovers’ Road covers 28 kilometers. However the road to the hearts of Zhuhai is of no end. Some goes to the couple who goes hand in hand here. How long is the distance towards the heart of both lover? Love cannot be determined by distance between each other. The Zhuhai City covers not just this coast, but all along where land and seas meet. From sunrise to sunset, from young to old age. Love is forever, and endless. Same as how the fisherman’s love for her, and the returning love of the mermaids towards the town of fishermen.
