The Museum of Dr Sun Yat-Sen

The Memorial Hall of the Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen is a memorial museum which takes the Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen as the main body. Located in Cuiheng Village, Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, the Memorial Hall is 17.6 kilometers southeast from Zhongshan urban area and near the main road of Guangzhou-Zhuhai Highway. It is around 100 kilometers north from Guangzhou, and 30 kilometers south from Macao. It faces Shenzhen and Hong Kong across the Pearl River, and adjoins Zhuhai.

Neighboring mountains and facing the sea, the Memorial Hall of the Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen boasts pleasant climate. Featuring the advantageous geographical position and beautiful natural environment, the Memorial Hall is placed in verdant forests, singing birds and fragrant flowers.

Founded in 1956, the Memorial Hall of the Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen was listed as the National Cultural Heritage Protection Unit by the State Council in 1986. It is also the national patriotic education demonstration site. For many years, the Memorial Hall has been attaching great importance to the protection of the Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the museum collection. It also stresses the protection and utilization of the preservation environment for cultural relics.

At present, the Memorial Hall covers an area of over 120,000 square meters, of which only an area of around 70,000 square meters is open to public. The main sights open to public include the Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, the Sculpture of Dr. Sun Yat-san Listening to the Story of Taiping Rebellion against Qing Dynasty, Ruijie Changgeng Archway——the Spot Where Dr. Sun Yat-sen Made Explosive Test, Cuiheng Ancient Dwelling Demonstration Zone, Cuiheng Agricultural Demonstration Zone, Zhongshan Tripod, and Warning Bell.

All of the scenic spots gradually form a three-dimensional and multi-level demonstration system which takes the theme of “Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the Social Environment of His Early Growth”. Integrating historical monument and folk custom, the demonstration system fully embodies the great patriotic spirit, ideological system and revolutionary practice of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. It not merely represents the social and historical environment of the birth and early growth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, but also helps deepen people’s understanding of the great figure.
