With floor space of nearly 50,000 sq m, the brand-new opera house costs 1.08 billion yuan ($158 million). Shaped as scallops to represent the brilliant sun and entrancing moon, the landmark opera house is the first on-island theater in the Chinese mainland. It is endowed with world-advanced acousto-optic and stage technical effects. The Concert Hall has 1,600 seats, a lobby, auditorium, and stage for broad-scale musical drama, musicals, ballet, stage drama, symphonies, chamber music, opera and other large-scale performances and variety shows.

Meanwhile, the opera house, holding 500 viewers, showcases original regional artwork, avant-garde drama, mini-theatre drama, local opera, modern dance, small variety shows, press conferences, art promotions, signature courts, fashion shows, corporate annual meetings and so on. There is a corridor above the Concert Hall for sightseeing, leisure tourism, catering, fashion and culture.

Rising from the first floor foyer, the sleek auditorium offers glimpses towards the surroundings and sea. its design is carried out in three layers: first, three horizontal lines (border line of balcony, auditorium, and orchestral pit) and three vertical channels of recessed light connect to form a natural flow in the space; second, in order to express the grandeur of the auditorium, BIAD has adopted an axis-symmetrical pattern and a horseshoe-shaped layout, in which the auditorium and the balcony rise gradually and use the latest three-dimensional digital technology for inspection and design so that all audiences have a high-quality experience; and last, the design also pays special attention to the acoustics of the performance and the requirements of the stage machinery, and integrates all the acoustic reverberations and sound-absorbing treatments into the overall outcome.
